Joseph Tyson Smith, 92
Joseph Tyson Smith, 92, of Roxana, Del., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at the Green Valley Nursing Home in Millsboro, Del. A World War II veteran, he served in Germany in the 88th Division “Blue Devils” Artillery. He was past commander of the American Legion Post #39, a member of the Delaware Masonic Lodge #37 of Dagsboro, Del., a charter and life member of the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company, and an ambulance driver for the American Legion Ambulance Service in Roxana. He attended the Dagsboro Church of Christ for many years.
Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Minerva Catherine Lynch Smith; brother Asa; sister Maxine; and a daughter, Minerva Smith Banks. He is survived by his daughter Rosalee Lynch and son-in-law R. Clifton Lynch; son-in-law Sidney R. Banks Sr.; grandchildren Charles Lynch, Brad Lynch, Rose Lynch, Sue Jacobs, Ellen Tietmeyer, Pamela Cooper, Melissa Belote and Rob Banks; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A fireman’s funeral was scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2008, with interment in the Prince George’s Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his memory to Roxana Volunteer Fire Co., 35943 Zion Church Rd., Frankford, DE 19945.
