Murder in Long Neck
The Delaware State Police (DSP), Homicide Unit, charged Millsboro resident Aris G. Mouzakitis in connection with a double murder on March 28, according to a March 29 press release.
Mouzakitis, 53, allegedly assaulted his estranged wife, and her mother, with a hunting knife at his mother-in-law’s home in Pot Nets Bayside.
According to the police report, he forced his way into the home and stabbed both victims multiple times, then fled.
Carol A. Mouzakitis, 49, and her mother, Dorothy J. Hutzulak, 76, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
A neighbor, who is a retired police officer, witnessed part of the crime and called 911 with a description of Mouzakitis and his vehicle, according to police.
A trooper responding to the call saw the vehicle near Routes 24 and 5, and turned around to pull Mouzakitis over. Mouzakitis reportedly tried to flee, but lost control and collided with another vehicle.
He was taken into custody without further incident, charged with two counts of murder (1st degree) and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
Mouzakitis was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute without bail, pending a preliminary hearing.
