Frankford Fall Festival to feature food, fun and frights
From aliens to zombies, the streets of Frankford will be taken over by all manner of costumed residents on Saturday, Oct. 29, as the town once again celebrates the season with its all-day Fall Festival.
The event, being held at Frankford Town Park, has been a collaborative effort between the Town of Frankford, local churches, the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company, the Frankford Public Library and local residents, according to fire company President Robbie Murray.
“It’s an absolutely packed day,” Murray said, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with registration for costume judging and concluding with a showing of “Hotel Transylvania 2” at 7 p.m.
Costume judging will commence at 11 a.m. in the parking lot next to the town hall, to be followed at 11:30 a.m. by a parade of all contest participants, from the fire company to the town park, accompanied by fire apparatus, Murray said.
The age groups for the contest will be 2 and younger, ages 3 to 4, ages 5 to 6, ages 7 to 9 and ages 10 to 12. Categories for those up to 4 or younger will include Funniest, Most Original, Best Cartoon and Best Prince/Princess. Categories for all other age groups will include Scariest, Funniest, Most Original and Most Realistic. Winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. at the town park.
From noon to 4 p.m., the park will be transformed into a Halloween party, with games and activities, including haywagon rides, an appearance by a LifeNet helicopter at 1 p.m., a K-9 unit demonstration at 2 p.m. and, at 3 p.m., a vehicle fire demonstration by the fire company.
Other free activities include face painting (tattoos), pumpkin painting and a moon bounce. Music will be provided by a D.J. throughout the afternoon. The fire company will have a fire-hose target practice activity set up.
Food vendors will be set up at the park, and numerous game and craft tables will be sponsored by area organizations. Everyone entering the park will be entered in a free door-prize drawing, and a 50/50 raffle will be offered by Envision Frankford.
The Town has set its official trick-or-treat hours for between the activities on Saturday, between 4 and 6 p.m. The park will re-open at 6 p.m. and the Movie at the Park, “Hotel Transylvania 2,” will begin at 7 p.m.
Town officials cautioned that traffic will be impacted during the day. Drivers are being urged to use caution, as pedestrian traffic will be higher than usual throughout the day. Clayton Avenue between Daisy Street and Hickory Street will be closed between 11 a.m. and noon, due to the parade. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hickory Street between the railroads tracks and Clayton Avenue will be controlled by fire police, to allow the attendees to safely navigate the area.
Parking will be available in several locations. For those attending the costume contest at the town hall, parking will be available behind the United Methodist Church and in front of the town water plant. During the Fall Festival, parking will be available in fields across from the park. Haywagon rides will be available beginning at noon, between the park and firehouse.
The Frankford Fall Festival is free to the public. Organizers are requesting that participants bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to local food pantries. Items can be dropped off near the Envision Frankford table at the festival.
