Everything around us is making us, well, round
Yup, that’s a gross generalization, and I fully-well realize that many people in our society today are in excellent physical condition, monitor their diets and take their wellness to heights we’ve never been able to reach before. The rest of us? Well, mostly fat.
I’m in that “rest of us” class. Oh, I lost about 50 pounds a few years ago when I was going through some health issues, but I have since found most of it, and have been steadily adding ever since. Is it poor nutrition? A more sedentary lifestyle? Bad choices with my diet regarding when and what I eat?
You can check all of the above for me. I eat foods that aren’t good for me, often while sitting on my couch and all-too-frequently right before I go to sleep — a magical time when I don’t do much to burn off those calories unless I’m having another one of those nightmares where I’m being chased by people carrying buckets of fruits and vegetables and I can’t find a chocolate fountain anywhere to dump them in and shove my pie-hole right into it and start ...
But I digress.
Yes, there are more and more healthy foods on the market today, and the taste of these products has increased exponentially. No longer do these foods taste like cardboard or paste, and an entire industry has popped up on the economic landscape the past few years centered on getting us to eat healthier. Of course, there have also been a few developments in the food world that steer us the entirely opposite direction.
For instance, I was reading on yahoo.com the other day about the new “Crown Crust Burger” pizza offered by Pizza Hut in the Middle East. The “Serious Eats” blog informs us that the Crown Crust Burger pizza comes with toppings designed to match the cheeseburger-stuffed crust, including lettuce, cheese, onions, tomatoes and pieces of beef.

Sorry, I got a little bit distracted there. Suffice it to say, Darin likey. By the way, is it just me, or could everyone else actually hear my health insurance premiums climbing during that last segment?
And, yeah, there are some health concerns to consider when discussing foods of this nature. You don’t only become a little more prominent when you ingest food like this, you also become much more succeptible to serious health issues. And while many eateries simply don’t discuss the “nutritional value” of their foods, some others simply put it out there for the world to see. Take, for instance, the “Heart Attack Grill” in Las Vegas.
For the second time in just over two months, a customer recently collapsed in the restaurant while eating one of their signature burgers. This woman was reportedly eating a “double bypass burger,” drinking a margarita and smoking a cigarette. Tough to see that combination posing a problem, huh?
“It’s a lifestyle issue,” restaurant owner Jon Basso told ABC News. “We attract the avant-garde of lifestyle seekers.”
Apparently, the restaurant has a sign at the front door stating that eating there is a health risk, and the waitresses in the Heart Attack Grill wear nurses’ uniforms.
“It’s the Mecca for unhealthy lifestyles,” said Basso.
He must be so proud.
