Spring Gala's theme take proverbial cake

This Friday, June 17, Contractors for a Cause will host their Annual Spring Gala, an event aimed at benefitting a number of organizations, with emphasis this year on one local, struggling family. From 6 until 11 p.m. on Friday night at the Cripple Creek Country Club, the Spring Gala, which has a casino theme this year, will provide table games with professional dealers from Atlantic City, live entertainment and all-you-can-eat-and-drink fare, with an auction, raffles and giveaways.

“It’s amazing what our committee has put together this year,” said Mark Hardt, charter member and committee officer of Contractors for a Cause. “We’ve gone over the top, and I think people are really going to be impressed with what we have in store.”

Contractors for a Cause is an organization of local contractors and builders dedicated to giving back to the community that supports them, throughout the southeastern Sussex County region. Last year’s completion of Justin’s Beach House – the charity summer home in Bethany Beach for families affected by cancer – highlighted the organization’s flagstaff project. Since their start, they have been giving back to other charities, as well, including Helping Hands and the Contractors for a Cause Scholarship Fund.

This Friday’s gala will give back to Willy Cannon, a local man whose family was recently severely impacted after he contracted Lyme disease.

“It has completely devastated the family,” said Hardt. “We want people to know that, in addition to the scholarship fund and the Helping Hands program, that the majority of the money raised from proceeds is going to support the Cannons through this difficult time.”

Like last year’s Spring Gala, Friday night’s event will cost $75, but with this year’s casino theme, attendants will receive $25 back in gambling credits upon entry.

“Right there, your entrance price is already getting knocked down to $50,” said Hardt. “Once there, we’re going to feed you and supply drinks, and you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a lot of great prizes.”

The auction items, he added, are some of the highlights of the night, as they include Bahamas and Puerto Rico getaways, as well as restaurant outings, theater performances and much more. Entertainment throughout the evening will include magic from Richard Bloch of Dickens Parlour Theatre, as well as an Elvis impersonator and a solo musician.

“This is going to be one of our premier events,” said Hardt. “It’s definitely a top-shelf, first class, to-the-nines kind of party. People can come by, have a great time with friends, while giving back to the area and a struggling local family. The Cannons are part of us. They’re part of this community.”
