Run, White & Blue raises almost $12,000 for scholarships

The fifth annual Run, White & Blue 5K/1-Mile Walk, held at the DelTech Owens Campus in Georgetown, was the most successful event yet, as nearly 500 runners and walkers braved the heat and humidity to raise almost $12,000 to support scholarships for veterans and first-responders.

The event included a free Zumba warm-up by World Gym Millsboro prior to the start of the race, and a post-race cookout featuring barbecued chicken cooked by the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company, barbecued brisket with baked beans and potato salad from Mission BBQ, pizza from Pizza King, oysters from JD Shuckers, ice cream from Vanderwende Farm Creamery, beer from NKS Distributors and Mispillion River Brewing, and wine from Sposato Family Vineyards.

In addition, the Delaware State Police helicopter, mounted patrol unit, patrol car, mobile command post, K-9 demonstration and a seatbelt rollover simulator were all on display.

There was also a smokehouse simulator from the Blades Volunteer Fire Company, a CPR and Stop the Bleed demonstration from Sussex County EMS, and display vehicles and information tables from Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control, Department of Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement, Delaware National Guard, Delaware State Fire School, and the Milton, Georgetown and Seaford police departments.

Fire trucks from Georgetown, Milford and Greenwood fire companies were displayed at the start/finish line.
