Anna T. ‘Ann’ Callahan, 88

Anna T. “Ann” Callahan, 88, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., formerly of New Castle, Del., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. She was born in Wilmington, Del., on May 5, 1930, daughter of the late Norman and Mildred (Stewart) Tingle.

Her childhood years were filled with many wonderful memories that she cherished. Callahan developed her love of the beach fro-m frequent family trips to Ocean City and Delmar, Md. From those memories, her spunk, sense of fun and love of life flourished.

Following graduation from Wilmington High School, she worked at Bancroft for several years. She met the love of her life, William “Bill” Callahan, and became a wife and mother. Her dream was always to be a mother. While raising her four daughters, she worked part-time at Wilmington Trust, until retiring and relocating to Rehoboth Beach.

In retirement, Callahan became a very active member of both the Cape Henlopen and Lewes senior centers. She enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards and bingo. She loved to travel, cook, crochet, and take walks on the beach and boardwalk. Her most precious memories are the times spent with her family.

In addition to her parents, Callahan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, and her brother, Norman. Callahan is survived by four daughters, Susan Davis her husband, Michael, Karen Callahan, Patti Burns her husband, Dave, and Katie Hatton her husband, Chuck; seven grandchildren, Kristen and her husband, Tommy, Brittany and her husband, Ricky, Meghan, Sarah, D.J., Erin and Sean; a great-granddaughter, Anna Rose; sisters-in-law Patricia Sianni and Lucy Callahan; and her cousins, a niece and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, Del. Interment will be held privately, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested  memorial contributions to either the Cape Henlopen Senior Center; 11 Christian St.; Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; or to Lewes Senior Center; 32083 Janice Rd.; Lewes, DE 19958.
