Clinton E. Street, 92

Clinton E. Street, 92, of Millsboro, Del., passed away peacefully, at home, on Dec. 23, 2018. He was born in Millsboro on Dec. 28, 1925, one of nine children of Mary and Harry Street.

Street was born with an inability to hear or speak, resulting in deafness throughout his life. In spite of his handicap of deafness, he lived a rewarding life, just short of 93 years, with his birthday just three days after Christmas.

In his life, he was mentored in his childhood by his parents and loving sisters. Street attended a school for the deaf in Pennsylvania, where he received a basic elementary education and learned sign language. He worked on his parents’ farm, obtained a driver’s license and had full-time employment for many years at Townsend’s poultry plant. He also assisted in caring for his parents and a sister.

Street loved the Christmas holiday, sending cards, opening presents, the Christmas family meals and food in general. His favorite hobby was assembling jigsaw puzzles while sitting in front of his TV set. He maintained a house and yard, cutting grass, pruning and leaf-raking. He took care of several pet cats. Street attended Indian Mission Church with his own personal deaf language instructor. At his 90th birthday, he was surprised and honored with a surprise party given by his sister Beatrice Johnson.

Street is survived by his sister Beatrice E. Johnson; a niece, Linda C. Johnson; a nephew, William M. Draine; and other relatives. He has now completed his life cycle here on earth and has joined his father and mother, brothers and sisters in heaven. “Rest in Peace!”

A viewing and funeral service were to be held Dec. 29, 2018, at Indian Mission Church in Millsboro, Del. The family offered a heartfelt thank-you to everyone participating in the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nanticoke Indian Scholarship Fund; 27073 John J. Williams Hwy.; Millsboro, DE 19966. Condolences may be sent online at
