Southern Delaware Chorale to honor Black History Month

The Southern Delaware Chorale (SDC), under the direction of Colin Armstrong, will present a concert called “A Choral Patchwork,” in honor of Black History Month, on Sunday, Feb. 24, beginning at 3 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. This is the third year that SDC has presented the concert.

The chorale, consisting of approximately 60 members, will have guest performers including the Cantabile Womens’ Chorus, Sussex Tech High School Bella Voce and VOCE men’s quartet. The Cantabile Women’s Chorus began in 2004 and was conceived as an ensemble for women over the age of 18 who had choral singing experience and wanted to revisit those skills in a healthy and supportive atmosphere.

The award-winning Sussex Tech High School Bella Voce, under the direction of Sara Rose, will also be a guest of SDC for the concert, as will Voce (pronounced “vo-chay”), a new vocal group in Rehoboth Beach featuring local singers Chris Berg (sopranist), Jacques Wieciech (countertenor), Robert Patlan (tenor) and Colin Armstrong (bass-baritone).

Music that will be featured during the concert includes: “Elijah Rock,” “I Got a Home in-a That Rock,” “Lift Every Voice & Sing” and more.

Tickets can be purchased online at for general admission at $15.

The Southern Delaware is a non-profit organization that promotes choral music in Southern Delaware by bringing together local singers of all ages who share a mutual love of good music and by presenting such music to the general public at a winter and spring concert and other events during the season. The chorale rehearses on Tuesday evenings at Georgetown Presbyterian Church during the school year.

The chorus has several concerts planned this spring:
