Deborah Ann ‘Deby’ (Gordon) Moore, 68
Deborah Ann “Deby” Gordon Moore, 68, passed away peacefully at Delaware Hospice on March 10, 2019. Born in Wilmington, Del., she was the daughter of H. Lynn (Hoffman) Gordon Jankus of Lewes, Del., and the late John “Jack” E. Gordon. During her last weeks, Moore was surrounded by her loving family.
Moore was a graduate of Wilmington High School and represented the school at the 1968 Distributed Education Clubs of America (DECA) conference in Dallas, Texas. She attended Delaware Technical & Community College and Keene State College in New Hampshire. She was employed for 15 years at Chase Manhattan Bank.
Moore won the title of Miss Rehoboth Beach in 1972 using her skills as a concert pianist. She then went on to represent Rehoboth Beach in the Miss Delaware state competition.
A resident of Lewes for the past 15 years, Moore was a member of the Colonel David Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Millsboro Cheer Center and Conley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed listening to classical music, going to the Cheer center, crocheting blankets, the annual shopping trip with her sisters, and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and her little kitty-cat Abby.
Moore was preceded in death by her stepfather, John C. Jankus. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Detlev “Deke” Moore; son, Brian McCarthy and his wife, Kristin; daughter, Laura Griffith and her husband, Ryan; stepdaughter, Heidi Klous and her husband, Brian; stepson, Ian Moore; grandchildren, Ryan Marshall Griffith, Elie, Duncan and Matilda McCarthy, and Grace and Molly Klous; siblings, John Gordon and his wife, Marge, Patricia McMichael and her husband, Charles, Cheri Gordon-Patterson, Gerilyn Gaskill and her husband, Howard, Joseph Gordon and his wife, Cheryle, Theresa Davis and her husband, James, and Tara Fairchild and her husband, Scott; her stepmother, Arden Lohr Gordon; her stepsiblings, Becky Dammann, Jennifer Yoon, Jimmy, John and David Prichard, and Bruce, Chris, Jim, Matt and Sean Lohr; 16 nieces and nephews, and their spouses; and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Although Moore, a wife, daughter, mother, Mom-mom, Oma, sister, aunt, cousin and friend has left this world, her family takes great comfort in knowing she is in heaven with God and is surrounded by those who went before her and who welcomed her with open arms, including her dad.
A private funeral service will be held on March 14, 2019. In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial donations to the Cheer Foundation of Sussex County (https://cheerde.wufoo.com/forms/the-importance-of-giving).
