Byrd joins Gallery One’s slate of artists

The artists of Gallery One in Ocean View recently welcomed new partner Mary Bode Byrd.

“Mary’s work is filled with energy, exuberance and whimsy!” representatives said, noting that Byrd brings to the gallery 30 years of experience in visual communications and graphic design, having begun her career as a designer with Hallmark cards.

“This training shows in her work, which exudes a visual excitement that seems to burst from the canvas while retaining an illustrator’s skill for form. Mary’s style is realism with an abstract twist and incorporates many media, including acrylics, hand-altered papers, graphite, watercolor and even found objects, such as netting.”

A graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in art practice, Byrd has won a number of awards from local art leagues and has been a guest artist in Western Maryland for a number of years.

Byrd is now living and creating full time in Bethany Beach and said she is constantly inspired by the area’s bright beach light and subject matter that reflects the joy of life.

Gallery One is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is always staffed by an artist. Gallery One is located at 32 Atlantic Avenue (Route 26) in Ocean View, and can be reached by calling (302) 537-5055, or visit for more information.
