Phyllis M. Collyer, 90

Phyllis M. Collyer, 90, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., and Newark, Del., passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, March 15, 2019, at her home. She was born June 10, 1928, in Randolph, Mass., daughter of the late Roy Burton Horton Sr. and the late Lyda Jean (Butler) Horton.

Collyer had worked for several years for Avon in Newark and then had a 23-year career with the Lee County Health Department in Fort Myers before retiring in the early 1990s. She had a larger-than-life personality. She loved being around people, especially her family, and was always ready to have a good time. Her quick wit and colorful language would always keep people on their toes.

In addition to her parents, Collyer was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Collyer, in 1970; a brother, Roy Burton Jr.; a sister, Barbara Duncan; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Ranae. She is survived by her six daughters, Diane Ash and her husband, Tommy, Reenie Knapp and her husband, Jack, Tricia Sulecki and her husband, Kenny, Phyllis Lowman and her husband, “Booty,” Rad Bonnie Brinkley, and Kathy Beavers and her husband, Roger; 19 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.

Internment and a celebration of life were to be held March 20, 2019, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, Del., where, in memory of her vivacious personality, the family encouraged guests to wear something with a leopard print. Condolences may be sent online at
