‘Tall & Small’ tea to celebrate Mother’s Day in Frankford
Nothing says Mother’s Day like a tea party with little ones.
That was the inspiration for the “Tall & Small Mother’s Day Tea,” set for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Frankford Public Library, according to Rachel Jackson, the Frankford library’s children’s librarian.
In the spirit of including all types of “moms” — grandmothers, aunts, sister, special friends, etc. — Jackson said she simply wants to include anyone who mothers, and the children who benefit from their nurturing. She said she got the idea for the creative title for the tea from a mom who had seen it at a school. “I thought it was perfect,” she said, because it expresses the inclusiveness of the event.
“We’ll have little teacups and everything,” Jackson said. “We’ll be putting our pinkies out,” and having fun pretending to be fancy, said Jackson, who emphasized that participants “can dress up, but it’s not required.” She said she’s been having fun gathering tea-related items for the event, which as far as she knows is a first for the Frankford library.
The event is free of charge. All “smalls” — children age 3 through fifth grade —- are welcome, as well as their “tall” person. Refreshments will include iced tea, lemonade and small snacks. In addition to the refreshments, Jackson said she is planning a Mother’s Day-card activity and perhaps a storytime, as well as a talk about Mother’s Day “and the little things we can do for our moms” every day.
“I’m looking forward to it,” she said.
Jackson, who is new this year at the library, said she is planning a Father’s Day event for June.
The “Tall & Small Mother’s Day Tea” will be held in the meeting room at the Frankford Public Library, 8 Main Street, Frankford. For more information, call the library at (302) 732-9351.
