New FI Lions Club officers installed

An installation ceremony was held on Aug. 19 at Harpoon Hannah’s near Fenwick Island, for incoming officers of the Fenwick Island Lions Club. Delaware District Gov. Kenny Vincent (Dewey Beach Lions Club) installed both the club officers and board of directors.

The club officers elected for 2019-2020 are Linda St. Clair, club president; Thomas St. Clair, 1st vice president; Sam Pierce, 2nd vice president; Lisa Hudson, 3rd vice president; Theresa Pitman, club secretary; and Dennis Sipe, club treasurer.

According to Linda St. Clair, “I am looking forward to leading various projects and continuing the Fenwick Island Lions Club’s commitment to serving the community.”

Since the club’s chartering in 1986, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to scholarships for Indian River High School students, improvements to the infrastructure of Camp Barnes, Leaders Dogs for the Blind, Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley and other local charities.

The club currently provides Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors, and vision screening to local pre-school and kindergarten children; bakes cookies for military families participating in “Operation SEAs the Day”; participates in the Wreaths Across America tribute at the Millsboro veterans cemetery; collects eyeglasses for disadvantaged people in developing countries; sponsor and coordinate the Selbyville Halloween Parade; and assist in the annual beach cleanup at Fenwick Island.

The Fenwick Island Lions Club has 71 members and meets on the first and third Monday of each month at noon at Harpoon Hannah’s on Route 54. Lions Clubs are a group of men and women “who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.” For more information or to get involved with the Fenwick Island Lions Club, contact Membership Chair Muriel Mooney at (302) 436-8216.
