Travel advisor to talk about ‘out of this world’ experiences at Disney World
“If you’ve ever wanted to step inside and be part of the interplanetary worlds you’ve seen in ‘Star Wars’ movies, you have the opportunity now at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World,” said Glass Slipper Concierge Duane Whitman.
The Disney-certified travel planner and Orlando travel expert will talk about new and future “Out of this World Experiences at Walt Disney World” this Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexible hourly talks and question-and-answer periods, at the Ellen Rice Gallery in Ocean View.
“Imagine meeting Chewbacca or flying the Millennium Falcon!” said the longtime Disney enthusiast. “Skillful piloting will earn you favor with the Resistance, but bang up the craft and you might end up on a bounty-hunter list!”
Whitman will guide those who attend through the ins and outs of the immersive, imaginary land of Batuu in the just-opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, “walking through local markets and meeting the citizens of this far away planet, creating light sabers and assembling working droids.
“Guests can weave their own stories through interactions with the ‘locals’ and other colorful characters from the world of Star Wars. There are winding walkways and ramps that give guests fascinating views of the area. The sounds of cargo ships departing and landing add to the authenticity of the planet.”
Whitman specializes in creating personalized travel plans for his clients to make their Disney, Universal and other destination vacations carefree and enjoyable by “taking the work out of your vacation, booking all vacation aspects from theme park tickets to dining reservations, guide services and fast passes tailored to the specific needs of each of my clients.”
Other topics he’ll address on Saturday are a new “Skyliner” transportation system that connects select Disney resorts with Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and early details about new attractions coming to Epcot and the Magic Kingdom.
He’ll also provide up-to-date information about the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction, scheduled to open Dec. 5, and plans to, at a later date, include a hotel that will feature windows that look out into “space” as guests “journey through the stars.”
Those attending Whitman’s presentations are being invited to bring lists of questions regarding Disney travel. Private consultations for travel plans can be arranged.
Whitman said he fell in love with Disney as a small child watching Walt Disney on his “Wonderful World of Color.” He’s been planning Disney vacations for others for more than 30 years and is a College of Disney Knowledge graduate who joined the award-winning Glass Slipper Concierge travel advisor business “because of its emphasis on exemplary service.”
He said he believes the best knowledge is hands-on. He’s traveled to WDW more than 30 times, stayed at most Walt Disney World resorts, eaten at the restaurants, walked every path, experienced the shows, ridden the rides and taken the backstage tours, and keeps abreast of everything new as it happens. He’s also a Platinum Castaway Club member of the Disney Cruise Line.
A lifelong resident of Millsboro, many know him as volunteer-in-chief at the Ellen Rice Gallery in Ocean View.
