CROP Walk an opportunity to help, have a good time
Fall in our community means slightly less traffic on the roads, leaves changing color and each weekend being loaded with a menu of festivals and fairs to enjoy with family and friends. Just read through our Calendar of events, and you can see that there is no shortage of activities for people looking to get out and enjoy autumnal weather.
One event we have our eye on particularly this weekend is the 31st year of the CROP Hunger Walk in Bethany Beach on Sunday, Oct. 20, sponsored by the Southeast Sussex Ministerium and Church World Service. “The CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk provides an opportunity for the community to support six local food pantries, as well as provide funds for communities facing rebuilding after devastating storms and earthquakes, such as in the Bahamas, in Indonesia and the United States,” according to organizers.
Participants can sign up at any of the congregations that are part of the Ministerium, or just show up at the Bethany Beach boardalk on Sunday, Oct. 20, to support the effort. The walk begins at 2:15 p.m., and sign-up is at 12:30 p.m.
This walk has become a staple to our community each fall, and is an excellent opportunity to both support those in need and to get out and enjoy a walk with others who wish to make a difference in the world. There are plenty of fun things to do each weekend right now, and you should get out and enjoy everything you can before winter comes and pushes all inside. This one is fun and helpful.
