Michael Joseph ‘Mike’ Chafin, 73
Michael Joseph “Mike” Chafin, 73, of Frankford, Del., formerly of Derwood, Md., passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. He was born in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 24, 1946, son of the late Jesse Roland Chafin and the late Elizabeth Rose (Buckley) Chafin.
Chafin worked as a drywall supervisor, retiring in August of 2005 from R&R Interior Finishes. He loved being near the water and enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing. He enjoyed working on cars and was a hotrod enthusiast. He and his wife, “Mimi,” enjoyed going to the Ocean City (Md.) Cruisin’ each year, where he could name the year and model of each car.
He will also be remembered for his ability to work with his hands, as he was extremely crafty. He will be remembered as a man devoted to his family and loved by his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Chafin was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Freeman, and a brother, Paul Jesse Chafin. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Gene Marie “Mimi” (Mayo) Chafin; two children, Jennifer Marie Burrier and her husband, Michael Shawn Burrier, of Sykesville, Md., and Christopher Michael Chafin and his wife, Beryl Lynne Chafin, also of Sykesville; four grandchildren, Alexandra Marie Burrier, Gabriella Rose Burrier, Calum Joseph Chafin and Rory James Chafin; a sister, Ellen Marie Hill and her husband, John Charles Hill, of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, Jesse Roland Chafin and his wife, Linda Sue Chafin, of Rosehaven, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with a prayer service at 2 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, Del. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org) or a charity of the giver’s choice.
