Mariner’s Bethel UMC urges people to ignore scam

The pastors of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View are warning church members to ignore an e-mail scam asking for money.

The e-mails, they said, state that donations given would be used to assist someone in exigency.

“It has been brought to our attention that a bogus e-mail has been sent randomly to members of the congregation asking for a monetary donation for an individual in need. Know that Pastor Dave, Pastor Woody nor any staff or church officers would ever request this type of immediate assistance via an e-mail. If in doubt, feel free to confirm any requests with the church office before responding. Please do not send money,” the e-mail to members stated.

The church’s pastors are the Revs. Dave Humphrey and Woody Wilson.

Mariner’s, located at 81 Central Avenue, has most recently been in the news for its Feed My Sheep program that provides weekly meals for those in need and the Live Nativity presented on Friday, Dec. 20.
